WOW!!! I'm amazed that this site and this topic hasn't generated a ton of comment  As has been the case since Nate Salter invented racing(just kidding Nate) there has always been more than enough racers to spend more on their race car (or now-a days) on their haulerand then complain about low purses than there has been the Jimmy Howard or Don Beiderman who had the budget all calculated before the green flag dropped. From the "been there done that department"

Do you know how much $2,500.00 was back in 71? That would be like $10,00.00 today. It's not worth while racing today..It's become too expensive and not enough sponsorship at the tracks. Look at pinecrests' sponsorships... Red Cap Ale..Coke..Export-A. Where are the sponsors today? Where are the Fans? I don't mean to beat up stock car racing..I own A super Latemodel...I just don't see a grand future for us any more...

I've wanted to build a budget racer for at least 20 years. All I could ever afford was demo derby which I quit about 15 years ago becasue costs were too much!

Part of the problem is the tracks not wanting to adopt a budget, street car based class. We have 4 cylinder Hornets sure, but whe there are5-6 Hornets on a 1/2 mile track, who wants to watch and the class dies. There are plenty of V6 FWD sedans around that can be had for less than scrap prices but I see almost no interest in them? I don't get it.

The glory days of cheap small block Chevy powered Chevelles is long gone I'm afraid.
